I was reading tonight and this passage stuck out to me-
To give you a little detail this particular part is after a man named Christian runs into Mr. Wordly who tells him he doesn't have to go to the cross to relieve his burden but simply seek out Mr.Legality who can help him relieve it faster. Thankfully Christian runs into his friend Evangelist who speaks truth to him and here were his words.
"The man you met is named Mr. Worldly-Wiseman, and he is well named because he loves only the doctrine of this world (he also goes to the town of Morality to attend church). He loves that doctrine best because it keeps him away from the cross. And because he is of this fleshly disposition, he tries to direct poor sinners away from the path to which I send them, even though it is the only right path. "
Can I just tell you that I felt the weight of that... I think even more so now that I have these girls I will be sharing life with next year. I never want to NOT take them to the cross. I don't want to be Mr.Worldy, leading my sweet friends into a life of legality. I want to show them that the way is narrow and hard. It's a heavy calling, but its the only truth and it's so worth it. Its the way to experiencing the Lord intimately. I never want to make them think that any good work they do can earn their salvation or relieve any burden of sin they may be feeling. I want to take them to Jesus and trust that He will do a work in their hearts. I pray that I will live in the truth that He loves them enough to not let them leave the next year unchanged. mmmhmmm He's so good to us. Thank you Lord for little reminders even in allegories before bedtime :)
"He saved us not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to His own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and the renewal of the Holy Spirit." - Titus 3:5
that book brings back such wonderful memories for me, reading it with my dad such a loooong time ago... thanks for that:)
